Some of your customers in Bodrum are foreign, and a site that speaks their language builds more trust. But a multilingual site is not just translation; set up wrongly, it confuses search engines.
URL structure
Each language needs its own address: Turkish at /, English at /en/. That way each page is indexed in its own language. Subdomains often behave like separate sites, so we prefer folders under one domain.
hreflang
Each page tells search engines its counterpart in the other language with hreflang. This helps show the Turkish page to Turkish searchers and the English page to English searchers. The language switcher should lead to the same page’s counterpart, not the home page.
Translation quality
Machine translation is fast but makes errors in commercial text. We recommend a human reviews titles, descriptions and call-to-action buttons. Search habits also differ by language: the equivalent of a Turkish query is not always a literal translation. Do keyword research separately in each language.
Which languages?
Start with the languages in which you actually get customers. In projects such as the Russian-language tour seller PromoBodrum and the English yacht charter site Cordelia Yachting, the language choice followed the target audience directly.
This site itself is set up in Turkish and English. If web design and SEO are planned together, the language structure is right from the start. See also reaching foreign tourists online.
